Quick little DIY thing I wanted to share with you all. You may remember the Simple Surf Kit post I did on Bloody Decks awhile back. I found another really handy use for these gum containers – Sabiki Keeper

Let me know if this sounds familiar. You remove a sabiki rig from its packaging, then once you’re done, you kind of stuff it away. When you want to use it again, it’s a tangled mess and you open up a brand new one. This easy little project will allow you to get more use out of your used sabikis.

Step One – Gum Box

That’s my preferred chewing gum. I buy it by the big package, and leave it in the car. Kind of my cigarette to keep me awake when driving. Don’t focus on the flavor, focus on the nice hard plastic case it comes in. Perfect to re-use. When I’m done, I save them to use later.

Step Two – Foam Insert

This is the keeper insert that I cut out from an 8.5″ x 11″ foam sheet that I bought at Michael’s. They cost $1-2 apiece. All I did was cut the insert out from the sheet to fit inside the gum case, then cut a few notches on either side with normal scissors.

Step Three – Ready to Use

Then just wind on your used sabiki, insert in the case, and stow in your tackle box for the next time you need it. Easy peasy.

If you think of any other uses or have other little fishing storage hacks, I’d love to hear from you.
