A lot of anglers I know look down their noses at half day trips.  They cite the crowds, the newbies, and the fact that it’s just too short to “get any real fishing done.”  I don’t disagree with any of those things, but sometimes schedule, money or other factors come into play and a halfie is all you can get in.

Personally, if I had to choose between a halfie and not going…what do you think I’d pick?  You never know what’s going to happen on the ocean.  I’ve had some great times on half day trips.  In fact, one of my all time best fish stories is catching my first white seabass on a half day trip!  So in an effort to encourage you all to get out, be it a half day trip or longer.  I’m going to highlight some of the great catches I see happening on halfies here on the blog.

This first one is a doozy.  This amazing catch happened on the New Seaforth, half day boat out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego.  On Wednesday, 90 year old Masaharu Tsuida, boated the catch of a lifetime…a 58 lb. yellowtail!  You can tell from the green “mossback” that this fish has been lurking around for a long time.  To a) get it to bite, and b) actually boat this fish is an awesome, once in a lifetime achievement.  Congrats to Masaharu and the New Seaforth!
