Not a bad start to the year…4 of 10 one month into the year

#1 – Yellowtail

This was the 2nd of 3 I caught this weekend at Colonet with Capt. Gavin Harbour on the Pacific Queen.  I believe all of the fish on this trip were caught on the yoyo jig and were a very nice grade of fish…18-28 lbs. with most say 20-22 lbs.

This fish hurt me.  A couple times, I told crewmember Justin Gonzales aka “Hector” – “I broke his will now.  Here he comes.”  And then he had a second wind.  And a third wind.  Strong fish.  He deserved the trophy shot.

Notice Hector’s pro gaff shot through its eye.

#4 – Halibut

New Years Day with Capt. Bob Beyer of First Dawn Sportfishing – On the dropshot plastic!  33 incher caught by the pipe off Newport Beach.

#6 – Saltwater Bass

A legal sandbass was actually my first fish of the year, again on the First Dawn – New Years Day trip.

This one won me my first jackpot of the year though – on the PM halfie with Capt. Kody Kessell aboard Dolphin Sportfishing, Friday, Jan. 26th before I got on the Pac Queen for our SCS Colonet trip.  Caught along the pipe off Tijuana.

#10 – Rockfish

Nothing notable, but we caught some quality reds on our SCS Colonet trip – Jan. 26th.  One of those is mine on the stringer held by crewmember Austin Moss of the Pacific Queen.
