Last Tuesday (March 18th), the Fish 4 Food event happened up at Channel Islands Sportfishing out of Oxnard, CA.  Fish 4 Food was started 5 years ago.  It was the brainchild of Jerry Stussman, a retired engineer and avid angler.  The event gathers the fishing fleet out of CISCO’s that volunteer their time.  Anglers paid $30 apiece to cover the costs of taking the boats out and they fished.  All the fish caught were then fileted and the meat donated to Food Share of Ventura County.  After the fishing, a raffle was held and prizes were distributed.

This year, 245 anglers turned out for the event.  Their efforts netted 565 lbs. of filets.  Food Share distributed the catch to their network of schools, churches, rescue missions and other pantry partners.  Being a regular angler, I’m used to always having fresh fish to eat.  If you aren’t though, you know it isn’t easy or cheap to get quality seafood to eat.  I’m sure it is a treat for the recipients of this charity to enjoy the benefit of everyone involved in this effort.

Shoutout to the organizers of the event, the sponsors and all the participants.   Special thanks to the owner/operators and crews of all the CISCO’s boats, Channel Islands Sportfishing, Gold Coast Lady Anglers, Avet Reels, Reballo Custom Rods, Eric’s Tackle of Ventura, and Amadeo Bachar for their donations of time, effort and product to make this event a success.
