Nice rockfish assortment with some ling and a sheephead thrown in for good measure

Regular readers of the blog know that I’m a big fan of rockfishing.   They are great table fare and can put a nice bend on your pole.  I also like the beautiful colors and equally colorful names…reds, bankies, barber poles, cinnamons, chuckleheads.  The list goes on and on.  Rockfish season closed on December 31st and doesn’t reopen until March 1st here in SoCal.

Today, Earth Sports has an article written about rockfish.  It’s written by Ron Ballanti, who has written articles for some of the top fishing mags around…including Salty favorite, Saltwater Sportsman.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you know I’ve retweeted several Earth Sports articles.   They’re one of the few sites that puts up regular posts for us salties.  In a world filled with bass fisherman (freshwater), Salty appreciates the great information they share about our end of the fishing world.  Earth Sports was also an early supporter of this blog by including me in their Earth Sports Daily.   They’ve now stepped up with a formal arrangement in support of this blog.  I am now getting advance notice of their posts and will be creating posts like this one to share their content with you.  Their financial support will help me take more trips and try more gear that I will report on here for your benefit.  Please support the blog and check them out.

Thank you Earth Sports and thank you readers!  So Cal Salty
