2013 was an enjoyable year of fishing here in Southern California.  I didn’t accomplish all my fishing dreams and goals, but I made a dent.  Most of all, I got to fish with some of my good fishing buddies, make some new friends and learn a thing or two along the way.  Happy New Year!  Best Fishes for 2014!

January/February

After the closure, I went out and scored my first fish of the year – some grumpy sand bass in Santa Monica Bay twilight leadhead and squid fishing on the New Del Mar.  Followed that up by heading down to Dana Wharf for a giant squid encounter with CNN reporter Miguel Marquez aboard the Sum Fun.  I got an early flattie score aboard the Native Sun during the Pot Of Gold Halibut Derby and then got a jump on rockfish season at the Coronados on the San Diego (and started this year’s agony with #thatdamnfish).

March/April/May

I was in Austin, TX at SXSW for work, missing the opener and Fred Hall.  I won’t be doing that this year!  So March started off slow, but finished with a bang scoring my first yellow of the year yo-yo-ing on the Mission Belle!  April I got in my first overnight of the year on the Pacific Islander and first Catalina trip of the year on the Fury.  May might have been the highlight of the year when I scored 4 big Coronado Islands yellows on the San Diego.  Wrapped up May on the Island Tak and saw my buddy AC catch his first big flattie and adding a biscuit for good measure.

Here’s “Year In Review – Part II
